Do You Need a Chatbot? A No-Jargon Guide
When a chatbot earns its place, and when a simple contact form does the job just as well.

What a chatbot actually does
It answers common questions and captures enquiries automatically, at any hour, without you being online. Think of it as a receptionist that never sleeps and never takes a day off.
When it earns its place
You get repeat questions. Hours, pricing, availability, service areas. If you answer the same thing ten times a week, a chatbot can handle most of it.
Enquiries arrive outside business hours. A visitor at nine in the evening can get an answer and leave their details instead of going to a competitor.
Your team is stretched. Automating the first level of enquiry frees people for the work only they can do.
When you do not need one
If you get a handful of enquiries a month and answer them promptly, a clear contact form is simpler, cheaper, and less likely to annoy anyone. Adding a chatbot to a site with little traffic solves a problem you do not have.
What makes one good
Answer real questions, hand off to a human cleanly, and never pretend to be a person. A helpful bot is invisible; a frustrating one is a reason to leave.
The honest test
Count how often you answer the same question, and how often enquiries arrive after hours. Those two numbers tell you whether a chatbot would pay for itself.
