How Often Should You Update Your Website?

Too rarely and it goes stale. Too often and you risk breaking what works. Here is a sensible rhythm.

How Often Should You Update Your Website?

The honest answer

Content that changes with your business should be updated whenever it changes. Your hours, prices, services, and team should never be out of date. Technical updates should happen on a fixed schedule.

A practical rhythm

Monthly. Apply software updates, check backups, review analytics, fix anything broken.

Quarterly. Review key pages, refresh anything that feels dated, check your ranking positions, and confirm the site still matches your offers.

Annually. A fuller review. Is the design still current? Does the structure still match how customers buy from you? Is it time for a larger refresh?

Update versus redesign

Small, regular updates keep you current and are cheap. A full redesign is expensive and disruptive, and should happen only when the current site genuinely holds you back.

The risk of updating

Change for its own sake can break things. Make updates deliberately, test after each change, and keep a way to roll back. A working site is worth more than a trendy one.

The signal you are overdue

If you would be embarrassed to send a new customer to your own website, it is past time. Otherwise, keep to the rhythm above and you will rarely need a dramatic rebuild.
